Health Insurance

Health insurance is a type of insurance which covers people against any medical expenses they may occur if they were to become ill or be involved in an accident. Health insurance is typically more common in countries such as America, which do not have a public health service, than the UK where everybody is entitled to medical treatment on the NHS. Although the NHS is not strictly a form of insurance as there are no premiums to pay it can be viewed as a form of health insurance as it achieves similar goals, that is eliminating an individuals financial risk if they are subjected to injury or ill health.

Although health insurance is not strictly necessary for people living in the UK it is available and people who opt to use private health care will often utilise health insurance to help them cover the cost of care if the need arises. Most health insurance policies will not cover certain ailments such as in illness the patient was suffering from before they took out the health insurance or a chronic and untreatable condition. These guidelines are usually common to most health insurance policies. However there are many companies and brokers offering health insurance and the variation in policies is very broad. If you are considering purchasing health insurance then it is important to find a policy that suits your needs.

Although health insurance is generally quite uncommon in the UK when compared to countries who do not support publicly funded health care it is still a popular choice for many people, particularly those who prefer to use private health care.
